Need FAST Recommendations for DVD Slide Show Software

I am usually not this helpless and I do know my way around my XP Pro, AMD
Dual-core computer. But, we just had a death in the family and I have been
asked to put together a photo slide show on DVD with sound. Funeral is in 3
days! Creativity is OUT.

Any recommendations on software that has nice, pre-planned photo shows
(transitions, etc) and all that one has to do is create the title and scan
and insert the photo scans and, then, the music files.

Thanks!!

If you like free, try Microsoft Photostory 3. It does kind of a Ken Burns
effect of panning and zooming the stills that can be created automatically,
or you can adjust per image.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...y/default.mspx

I believe you can also do slide shows in PowerPoint.

Check out Corel's website. They have an automatic program you set for
length of slide, transition, etc. Put in as many photos as you want
and click go. They have a free, uncrippled, 30 day trial. I think
Magix has one also, but not sure if it puts a watermark on the trial
version, or limits # of slides. There are several programs that do
this for you. Then try any one of several DVD creators. Again, Corel
has Movie Factory 6 with a free trial, if not a newer one. There's
literally hundreds of good DVD creators, some free, but I think the
pay ones generally have more flexibility as to menus, background music
for menu, chapters, etc. I recommend staying clear of Memorex blank
DVD's as they change supplier every month to cheapest. Sony is a bit
more, but much better. In general, Japanese media are better than
Chinese. I use Taiyo Yuden, but think you must order online, which
isn't enough time for you. The better quality DVD will play on more
players and dye is more stable over the years. Burn at 8X. I also
recommend printing directly on DVD instead of printing and sticking on
a paper label. Eventually the label will come off, usually inside DVD
player, although this is rare. Printers that have direct to DVD print
start at under $100. Make sure your DVD blanks are inkjet printable,
again, a bit more $$. See if you can get cases from movies and print
a wrapper. You can order them, but then again, no time. Many people
remove DVD's from case to save space. I've had hundreds given to me.
Makes for a much nicer presentation. Check with your friends who buy
a lot of movies. I'd also recommend getting others to do legwork for
you. You'll spend a lot of time scanning and creating. Ask someone
else to buy media, or at least search stores, even if you pay. Ask
another to check out cases. And another to create the artwork for
label and case wrapper. You focus on creating the slideshow. Most
time probably spent on scanning photos. If you have slides, a
separate slide/negative scanner works well. I bought one for about
$50 that works quickly and better than my larger scanner that will do
it, but is more awkward to change slides.

ProShow Producer allows one to set timings, backgrounds and music for
selected photos or the entire slideshow. It sells a "Family Memories"
set of slideshow templates for $25 that can probably be adjusted for a
funeral theme. Package includes templates, borders, masks, DVD menus,
royalty-free music.

Your suggestions have all been great and I need to, and will, check them all
out further. Another forum beat you guys to the punch and I was hot to trot.
They suggested a freeware prog called DVD Slideshow GUI. A simple, non-slick
program that that was perfect.
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/DVD_slideshow_GUI It comes with other
programs so that once you photos and music are input, it encodes and burns
with simplicity and without incident.

Thanks so much. I was looking for a good DVD program anyways as a friend of
mine converted all my S-VHS tapes to AVI and now it is up to me to author,
encode and burn them (with a little tweaking, I am sure).

I second Proshow - it's really good.
