How much video can be stored on a 4Mb sd card

How many minutes of 1280 x 720 (HD) video can be stored on a 4 Gb sd
card?
I am currently looking at still video camera's that can record HD
video.

Not enough information.

What bitrate? (Take some sample footage and look.)

Once you get the average bit-rate that the camera uses, then it's
just a matter of simple math to figure it out. (Sample: 5mb/s is
0.625MB/s, or 3.5 megabytes/minute or about 2.2GB/hour.)

Keep in mind if your camera uses a variable bit-rate, high-detail
scenes (or scenes with a lot of movement) will use more memory.

Also make sure your SD card is fast enough to capture the
video. (Yes, speed matters.)

(And if you want to do none of the above, download the camera
manual, and they usually have some sort of general guidelines
on how much storage/minute is needed, or how many minutes of
video can be put on a particular card size...)

Thanks BJ.
Maybe I should have asked what is the minimum length of video I can
fit on a 4 Gb card (using a high quality setting). I like your
suggestion of looking up this information in the camera's manual as
manufactors are starting to put a pdf version of manuals for download
on he internet.

If I can fit 1 hour of video on a 4 Gb card then I'd be happy.

It would be nice if pocket sized camera's allowed you to add two SD
cards, one for still photos and the other for videos. That way you
should not use up the SD card with videos and not have enough room to
store good quality photos.
